Our Alumni Shared Their Experiences within the Scope of the Orientation Week and Alumni Tracking Event

Following a moment of silence and the National Anthem, the event began with the opening speech of Prof. Dr. Turan Sağer, Rector of Alanya University. In his speech, Prof. Sağer emphasized the significance of gastronomy in Alanya and highlighted that professionals trained within our university are not only employees but also artists in their field.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Durdu Öner shared his experiences and underlined the university’s dedication to the discipline of gastronomy.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Mankan, Head of the Department, provided information about the department’s structure, discussed students’ internship experiences, and introduced Erasmus+, BAP, and TÜBİTAK 2209-A projects, offering guidance to new students.
Subsequently, Asst. Prof. Dr. Zehra Kaya spoke about her research areas and explained the benefits of TÜBİTAK 2209-A projects for students.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Türkan Uzlaşır, Chair of the Alumni Tracking Commission, expressed her gratitude to Prof. Dr. Turan Sağer for his support in organizing the event.
Members of the department’s academic staff, including Asst. Prof. Dr. Gülden Kılıç, Lect. Dr. İlkay Elmacı (Head of the Food Quality Control and Analysis Program), Lect. Erdi Eren (Vice Director of the Vocational School), Res. Asst. Ayşe Muslu Aykoç, Res. Asst. Cansu İşeri, Res. Asst. Gülçin Aydın, and Res. Asst. Mustafa Kemal Kök, shared their academic backgrounds and research areas with students.

The event continued with video presentations from alumni who could not attend in person: Baran Tutkan, Erolcan Beypazarlı, Deniz Ergün, İrem Taşdemir, Şelale Beyza Topan, and Metin Bolat.
After the video presentations, our alumni Yaşar İmer (Export Demo Chef, Crystal Industrial Kitchen Equipment), Yusuf Fırtına (Chef, Heritage by Çimen Hotel), and Emine Sude Uslu (Master’s Student at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University) delivered speeches. All three alumni emphasized the importance of the 100% English-language education offered by the Alanya University Department of Gastronomy, noting its significant contribution to their professional and academic development.

At the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Turan Sağer presented certificates of appreciation and gifts to the participating alumni. The program concluded with the serving of muffins and cookies prepared by Res. Asst. Cansu İşeri and Res. Asst. Gülçin Aydın in the department kitchens.

As the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, we extend our gratitude to Prof. Dr. Turan Sağer, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Mankan, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Türkan Uzlaşır for their contributions and support in organizing this first-of-its-kind event.
